The first leg, flight to Melbourne, wasn't so great. After dinner service on the plane, they were serving tea/coffee. While the coffee cart was right next to me, the hostess missed the cup when pouring the hot water, and instead it went onto me... pouring down my right arm and stomach. Boiling hot water!!! All I got for my troubles was some ice wrapped in a towel, which I held on my arm for the next hour until it calmed down. Luckily no lasting effects. The lady in the seat opposite reckoned I should sue them, I told her that's not my style. Later I was offered a "special drink" (meaning champagne) but I declined.
The second leg, finally getting on board the almighty Emirates A380. Wow!!! Compared to the previous flight, it felt like I had been upgraded. Wider seat, much more legroom, much nicer food and drinks service, and better entertainment selection.
I was really impressed with the A380 as an aircraft. Spacious interior, super smooth when in motion, both on the ground and in the air. It takes off gently like the lumbering giant it is, the climb feels more like gliding. I was fortunate to be seated in the front section of the plane, where there is plenty of toilets and standing room up the front of the plane. I would definitely choose this means of transport again (sorry Helen!).
Arrival at Dubai airport is equally impressive, starting with the in seat entertainment allowing viewing of a camera on the front of the plane, to see the runway as we land.
Just like last time I visited in 2009, the airport is immaculate. Clean and sparkly, with no visible signs of construction anywhere. Not a plyboard wall in sight!
After catching the train to my terminal, I have around 2.5 hours until my next A380 encounter when I fly to Amsterdam and meet Helen and Gwen
Postscript... I needed to to toilet, went to the mens, opened a cubicle, and found this. I guess I can hold until I find a proper toilet to sit on, which will be on the plane!
