Warsaw Day Two

Today was really was quiet for us. Helen spent the day in bed. I ventured out briefly in the morning to a nearby motorbike gear shop, got there by tram and back by train. We have plenty of options because only 5 minutes from the hotel is the central train station and it is a major hub for trains, buses and trams.

When I arrived at the train stop to return to the hotel, the Metro subway was a labyrinth of long tunnels with 12 different exits!

Luckily Google Maps told me which exit to take so all I had to do was obey and hope it was correct, thankfully that worked out well. Above ground, each entry/exit looks like the picture below, and if you look around across the large roading network you see the landscape dotted with then.

For lunch Helen and I walked over to the mall and found a nice Japanese / Sushi restaurant to eat in. We then went into the supermarket in the mall to stock up on drinks for our hotel fridge.

I sat at my laptop most of the afternoon planning an upcoming motorbike tour around the South Island back in New Zealand, booking accommodations. Mission accomplished!

Around 4pm I ventured out to do some laundry. Only 5 tram stops away.

It was raining heavily and I found out the hard way that it is difficult to navigate to and from train stops if you don't know the area. The trams that I used run down the middle of a busy three lane road, and it is necessary to use the undergrounds nearby the stops but this has so many sets of stairs for Metro and different roads. I didn't find any useful maps so I was walking back and forth, up and down, until I found the right path.

Later Helen and I ventured over the road to the mall to get some burgers for dinner. We returned back to the hotel about 8:30pm.

I walked 9.45km today, not bad for doing nothing of significance! Thanks to the confusing subway I climbed 25 flights of stairs.
