Today we were up early, packed and out the door by 7:30am. We had booked an Uber to the train station, just as well as it was raining heavily but no snow falling as forecast.
The Uber dropped us across the road from the train station so we had to jump in an Elevator, down below and then walk through a long subway to the station.
Once there we quickly found some seats as we had to wait about 45 minutes before boarding our train to Vienna.
I went for a walkabout and found a lego miniature of the train station, very impressive.
Due to a ticketing mixup we did not have reserved seats, Helen sorted that out but sadly we couldn't get first class. No problem as the train was very nice with free WiFi and although busy for the first section, the carriage soon emptied out a bit.
The train ride took about 4 hours. We had barely left Prague when the snow started to fall, and the view was a wonderful Christmasy white for almost the entire journey.
Once we arrived at Vienna, we had to navigate our way through the station, purchase public transport passes for our time there, and then make our way to the subway. I think so far this was the longest we had to wheel out suitcases and it was tiring.
Once we arrived at our subway stop, we had about a 10 minute walk to our hotel. The route was mostly flat with a slight incline, but right at the end there was a concrete staircase to get the hotel. I lugged all the bags up which was no fun,
Due to a booking mixup our room was upgraded free of charge, this included free use of the minibar bridge containing water, juices and coke. Nice!
Being in Vienna, we thought we ought to find a Weiner Schnitzel dinner. After doing some (poor) research, we headed out on a tram to a place I found online. This included walking about 15 minutes through all sorts of quiet and dark streets. When we got there the place didn't look appealing so we backtracked to an Irish Pub we'd passed, and there got fantastic food, drink and dinner.
After dinner we walked to a nearby subway station. Instead of doing straight to the hotel's nearest stop, we instead got off at Stephensplatz for a look around. I didn't know this was a "bucket list" place in Vienna, it had large Christmas Markets on and was very busy. We had a look around and then walked the rest of the way to our hotel.
