We have some heavy driving days ahead of me over the next 3 days. One item on my bucket list was to go to John O'Groats, and considering that Mum and I visited Lands End last year, it seemed fitting to make it to the top this year. Today's journey involves approximately 4 to 5 hours of driving, depending on the weather and traffic, so we set off at 8:30 am.
The roads were in decent shape as we made our way to Inverness. We had a little detour planned to find a place for the dog to have her nails trimmed. Unfortunately, nothing seemed to be open despite what the internet had indicated, so after spending a couple of hours searching, we decided to leave Inverness behind and head for John O'Groats.
I'll admit that we came around one corner a bit faster than intended, causing a few items to shift inside the motorhome—a first for us. Mum and I shared a good laugh, found a spot to pull over, and our in-house cleaner (Mum) went to work with her dustpan and brush to tidy things up. It's all part of the adventure, and sometimes these unexpected moments add a touch of humour to the journey.
By 3:15 pm, we had successfully reached John O'Groats. It's always fascinating to witness the various types of vehicles and travelers undertaking this iconic journey. In this instance, three cars arrived simultaneously, and their occupants were busy capturing photos of their vehicles next to the landmark. The shared enthusiasm for the adventure and the picturesque surroundings make such moments memorable and enjoyable for all.
Capturing a classic photo of the John O'Groats landmark was undoubtedly worth it. It's a place of historical and geographical significance, and the strong winds that are often present there only add to the experience, making it a memorable stop on your journey. The photograph will serve as a cherished memento of your visit to this iconic location in the UK. And I was pretty happy it wasn't raining for a change...lol.
After our visit to John O'Groats, we started our journey back south and eventually reached Wick. That's where we decided to spend the night at the Wick River Campground. Along the way, I spotted a couple of scenic bays and couldn't resist the chance to capture a few more photos of the breathtaking views. Scotland's landscapes are truly spectacular, and it's always a pleasure to document these stunning vistas during our travels.
