Road Trip Day 5 - Edinburgh to Perth/Scone

We kicked off our day early this morning, but there was a slight change of plans due to the less-than-ideal weather conditions. Originally, I had intended to take Mum to the Falkirk Wheel and up the canal, but the persistent rain made us reconsider. Instead, we decided to skip that for now.

Starting from the campground, our first stop was at Costco to refuel with some diesel, which was priced at 145.5 today. Surprisingly, fuel prices varied between 154.4 and 161.5 elsewhere. With our tank filled up, we made our way to Queensferry.

I have a fondness for stopping by Queensferry before crossing the bridge over the Firth of Forth. There's something truly amazing about standing beneath the original train bridge, and it's a moment I always appreciate when visiting the area. The historical significance and engineering marvel of the bridge never fail to impress.

In the far distance, one can also spot the original road bridge, which is now exclusively used for public transport and emergency traffic. And just beyond the original road bridge, you can see the modern road bridge, which accommodates general traffic. The juxtaposition of these bridges, each with its own purpose adds to the fascinating landscape of Queensferry.

Queensferry certainly carries a rich history, and in days gone by, it would have bustled with activity as a hub for ferry transportation. Today, its main activities revolve around fishing and sightseeing. While the hustle and bustle of ferry services may have faded, the town's charm continues to draw visitors like myself who come to explore its maritime heritage and enjoy the scenic beauty.

After our exploration of Queensferry, we hit the road once again, heading north toward Perth. However, we encountered a little mishap along the way. While following the GPS directions, I inadvertently ended up on the wrong on-ramp, which led to the old bridge. Fortunately, the highway personnel came to our rescue, providing us with directions to go under the bridge and navigate through the roundabout to access the entrance to the new bridge. I must admit, I felt a bit embarrassed at the time, but as they say, mistakes do happen, and we had a good laugh about it afterward.

Once on the correct bridge, we continued our journey to Perth and then to Scone Palace. When in Scone, it's practically a requirement to visit Scone Palace for a scone, so that's precisely what we did. The palace offered a fantastic selection, and I decided to savour a cheese scone. Enjoying local treats like this is a delightful way to experience the flavours and culture of the area.

After indulging in our delightful afternoon tea at Scone Palace, we made our way to the campsite to get settled in for the evening. It's always great to return to our home on wheels after a day of exploration and enjoy a peaceful evening watching other reverse their caravans in and putting their awnings up in the wind, who needs TV....lol.
