Mallaig

After Glenfinnan, the road continues on towards Mallaig, this is mostly a coastal road. We arrived at the water's edge late afternoon as the sun was heading down. Very scenic indeed.

Mallaig is a small town on the west coast of Scotland, which obviously has two streams of income; one being local fishing boats, the other the ferry to the Isle of Skye.

We checked into the West Highland Hotel which Helen had booked us into. It was a grand old place, quite nice, with a sea view across to the Isle of Skye. A coach full of German tourists we'd seen throughout the day was staying also.

We went for a drive to check out the remainder of the town, which would have taken about five minutes had we not stopped to watch the ferry leave. Tomorrow that would be us!

We then parked the car at the hotel to use our feet instead.

Lonely Planet assured us we were in the right place for fresh seafood. And they also recommended the best place to go. After comparing menus on four restaurants within a minute of each other, we decided to ignore Lonely Planet and take a different option, which was cheaper and looked more homely. We certainly were't unhappy with our choice. Take a look at the seafood platter Helen had! It doesn't come fresher than that. And not an ounce of batter in sight.

After dinner, we went to catch the last of the sun. Don't be fooled by the photos, there was a stiff breeze blowing and it was pretty cold!

Will it be this calm tomorrow morning when we sail to the Isle of Skye?
