I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside

Today we did a small road trip, east towards the coast.

First stop, less than an hour from home, the small town of Bungay. Here we met with and Derek and Helen, who are friends of Gwen's. We met in a coffee shop called Jesters which did the most amazing hot chocolate drinks (and I'm told the coffee was good also). It was warm inside, but only 5 degrees and wet outside. We had a nice chat over morning tea, then said our goodbyes.

Helen and Gwen wandered up the road to a quilting store. While they did this, I visited Bungay Castle which is fenced off and only accessible out the back door of Jesters. The castle is definitely in ruins, and really didn't take long to walk around.

I also walked past this beautiful church on the way to meet Helen and Gwen at the quilting store.

Once in the store, I found Helen in her element. A small purchase of fabric was made.

Next stop was the seaside town of Southwold. A popular summertime destination, it has a pier with the usual entertainment including amusement arcade, funny mirrors and penny press machine.

Outside it was cold, windy and raining, so we really didn't want to stay outside any longer than it took to get some photos.

Any respectable seaside resort has rows of little seaside sheds.

We continued around the coast, first driving through Lowestoft, where due to a GPS hiccup we took a few wrong turns but without getting lost. We might have gone to take a look at the beach except for the poor weather. We then we carried on to Great Yarmouth where we parked up in town and went for a small shopping stop.

We arrived home about 4pm, settling in for a night at home where it's cosy and warm.

Here's the route we took today.
