Salisbury Crags

A free day. Mike is off to a developers conference today so I decided I would walk up the Salisbury Crags to see how long it would take me to get to the top. I took the first bus from our place this morning down to The Palace of Holyroodhouse and Parliament at the edge of the park. As you can see it is rather a large hill.

The walk only took me around 45 minutes to get to the top, with a few stops on the way to take in the view and catch my breath. Being so early in the morning there were very few people at the top which was nice. The cliff stands at 46 metres high and the view to the east is amazing on a nice morning like this, across to the Firth of Forth.

Also from here you nice that Calton Hill isn't as big as it looks from Leith Walk, and as normal they have scaffolding on the hill working on one of the monuments... typical coming into summer.

But I think the best views are of the city from the very top, you can see North Bridge.

The view of the Edinburgh Castle from this view point is very unique.

I decided I would sit a while at the top. I found a real nice seat on the edge and enjoyed the view for a wee while, but as you can see the rain cloud decided to start in.

So it was time to start back down, but on the way down I had to stop for a few photos of Holyroodhouse and Parliament.

Well by 10.30am I had made it to the top and back down again, I guess next time I need to take Mike with me on a nice warm morning this summer.
