On Sunday we decided to take a train trip ton Winchester, what a great trip, only an hour out of London, we got to see some wonderful country side. The first stop was walking down from the train station through the high street towards the Cathedral
Lucky for us the weather has been great, cold but no real rain, not to much different from home really. From the high street we made it down a couple of little streets to the Cathedral
After having a good look around I visited Jane Austen's' grave, this is something I have wanted to do for some many years, being a big Jane Austen fan it was amazing to be there, she is in the Cathedral itself which is somewhat unusual for the time
Her stone make no mention of her being a writer as at the time she was berried it wasn't common knowledge she was a writer.
From the Cathedral we made out way up the town to the old great hall
Winchester was once the capital of England and in the great hall is where King Arthur's round table is. It is make up of 121 pieces of English oak
I was amazed at the thickness of the table
Once we had finished with looking around the hall and reading all about the history of the area it was time for lunch. Being Sunday and all we had to have a Sunday pub lunch, so we went to England's oldest pub for lunch "Royal Oak"
