Heraklion, Greece

Today we are back in Greece, visiting Heraklion, the largest city on the island of Crete.

We had not booked any excursions for today and it was quite a long distance to get from the port to the town. I went across to the terminal in the morning to get some WiFi at the port terminal, and could not get it to work. To make matters worse, the terminal is used by everyone using ferries to other island and/or Greece mainland and before I knew it, there was a queue out the door and down the street! I sat that out before heading back to the ship.

I grabbed the laptop and decided to head to a nearby McDonalds to get some free Wifi (well not free, have to buy something!). While sitting on the port shuttle bus, a couple offered me a ticket to the Hop On Hop Off bus, which they used in the morning, and is valid for 24 hours. Score! So instead of getting WiFi I found the bus and went for a tour. Apart from the waterfront section of Heraklion, which is quite pretty, the rest of the town isn't much to write about, so I'll stop writing now!

On the way back to the port, we passed the McDonalds I was headed for. It was quite some distance away from the port and up a bit of a hill too. So I guess all worked out OK.

We sailed late afternoon towards Athens for a two day stop. We were treated to a lovely sunset out at sea tonight.
