The trip to Vancouver was rather uneventful. I arrived at Wellington Airport with plenty of time, and watched Helen and John's earlier flight take off.
Once it was my turn, I caught up with them at the international Koru lounge. Our plane wasn't too full, so Helen and John had a spare seat between them, and I had a whole 3 seats to myself! While this all sounds luxurious, a 13 hour flight in cattle class can still only get so good. Helen didn't nap much at all, John and I got a few hours.
Vancouver Airport is beautiful and very welcoming, we enjoyed the quick immigration queue and soon were welcomed into Canada. Helen was pleased to receive stamps in our passports.
We caught the Sky Train to downtown. Helen and John sat in the front seats. Note there is no train driver! The train was very smooth and fast. The track was a mix of open air and underground, and varies up and down some quite steep gradients at times without losing speed.
Helen had booked us an apartment, rented to us privately. We walked there and eagerly queued up for showers and toilets. The apartment is small, it has a king bed in the living room and a second bed in a tiny room which only just fits the bed with no room to walk around! Still it is well located and will keep us happy while we stay here.
The city looks beautiful with autumn colours and the footpaths covered in red maple leaves.
Our body clocks now need to adjust, as I write this it is nearly 6pm local and we're tired, but NZ time is only 2pm. The joys of travel! We've had a walk around to stretch the legs, found an amazing food market which we compared to the Moore Wilsons market only much larger. There were several New Zealand products on the shelves. It's Halloween soon and they're selling giant pumpkins too.
Weather here is 12 degrees but without the Wellington wind it's not too cold. Unfortunately it is forecast to rain for the next while. We have 2 days here before getting our rental car, and have purchased a day pass for trains and buses, so tomorrow we'll be wandering around the city.
