Today we had no set plans, so started by catching a bus
downtown to find the information centre to get a bus map. There is no such
thing in this town! They are still very helpful and gave us some directions.
We were quite hungry so made an beeline to a foodcourt nearly for brunch. In there we found an American style diner attached so sat down. Over loudspeakers, there was a shakeout like Wellington had recently. Everyone ignored
it including us!
Next we headed up the nearby Vancouver Lookout for a view from above. The observation deck is enclosed so nice and warm, and has a grand view of both
city and sea.
By the time we left, the rain started, and would only get
heavier as the day went on. We walked through Gastown, did some clothes
shopping, and sat outside Starbucks to watch the steam clock ding dong (we heard it twice as we were
there longer than 15 minutes).
I would have had some great photos except I had left the CompactFlash card back at our room. All the photos I took vanished into thin air within my camera.
Having been shopping, we went back to our apartment via train and bus, to
lighten the load, then headed off to find the Apple store. John actually
committed to purchasing a Touch but they were out of stock of the model he wanted! Too bad.
Next we headed over to North Vancouver on the ferry. The ferry is designed to move mass people. Doors open on one side to let everybody out, then the other side opens to let people in. Turnaround time is short, and the journey is only about 10 minutes across.
The rain outside continued to worsen and by now it was
getting dark. We hopped a bus out of the city centre to a fun eatery
called Sophie's Cosmic Cafe which was a great choice. It's full of kitsch and we
happened to be seated in the booth adorned with Queen Elizabeth II pictures. The meal was
great and we weren't hungry when we left!
The trip home was cold and wet. We had to bus and walk
and by the time we got home, we had sopping wet trousers and jackets.
On the way, we saw a movie set being set up. There were several NYC taxis parked in a row. Maybe one day, we'll watch a movie containing this very scene?
By now it was time for bed, but not before checking out where are car park is downstairs, as tomorrow we intend to pick up the rental car.
