Ísafjörður, Iceland

Here we are again, awaking to sailing into another beautiful fjord in Iceland. Today hearing to Ísafjörður, the largest town in the remote Westfjords region of northwest Iceland.

Today was a public holiday in Iceland, so not much happening in town.

We were booked on a 4WD ATV adventure ride. This was situated on the waterfront about 5 minutes walk from our ship. There was only 4 of us booked on today’s tour, which is better than a large group by far.

We had to learn how to operate the ATV. It’s actually very different to a motorbike so I had to unlearn a few things.

Once we got underway, we rode through town, which meant we got to see it without having a walk through later. We then headed up a mountain road to a ski field, where the car park provides a great view down across the town. We had climbed quite a distance!

We then descended and want down a country road where we got to see a local waterfall. Queue the mandatory photo opportunity!

Next we went for a ride at of town and around a water inlet, where due to a lack of wind the water was very still.

We eventually rode our way back to the wharf the the ship tender.

The ATV adventure was 2 hours long, and great fun, I enjoyed riding the ATV. The sense of being in control of your own vehicle, and being so in touch with the countryside, just can’t be beat.

The rest of the day we just lounged around the ship, having a swim, a snooze, and getting involved in some ship activities.
