Djúpivogur, Iceland - Cancelled!

Today we were to visit Djúpivogur in Iceland. This town isn't sheltered within a fjord, instead it is exposed to open sea, contained within its own man-made harbour.

We had a 8 hour excursion booked to drive to Vatnajökull National Park where we were to take a boat ride on a glacier lake. We had set the alarm for 5:30pm, needing to have breakfast and check in for our excursion at 6:40am.

We checked in as planned, then suddenly the captain's voice came over the ships speakers. Due to strong winds, and advice from the habour master, we would not be stopping at Djúpivogur. This came as a huge disappointment, but what can we do? So today became an unexpected sea day where we steered towards our next port at a gentle pace.

Throughout the way we stayed within visibility of Iceland. I would not call it a shore so much as mountains. Impressive to see, soaking it in for hours. Eventually the weather did turn nasty with stronger wind and bigger sea swells.

It was impressive how quickly the ship's crew went into "Plan B" providing entertainment, activities and even an unplanned lunch after expecing most passengers to be be ashore all day.

At one point we saw a pod of 6 dolphins playing alongside the ship for about 10 minutes. It's the little things that make this trip enjoyable.

So the only photos I can offer today is from ship to shore, of the incredible Icelandic landscapes.

As an added bonus, tonight about 10pm we cross the arctic circle.
