Day 20 – One Last Day with Mum

The final full day in the UK had arrived.

With my flight to Amsterdam early tomorrow morning, there wasn’t a lot of time left, so Mum came up with a list of errands while I still had a car at my disposal. Unfortunately, she wasn’t feeling particularly well, so I happily volunteered to be chief shopper, delivery driver and general dogsbody for the day.

I started at Sainsbury’s, armed with a shopping list that was supposed to be quick and straightforward.

It wasn’t....You know how these things go.

I managed to find everything Mum needed… plus a few extra things that somehow found their way into the trolley. While I was there, I also grabbed some Sophie food from Pets at Home, along with a new soft food to see if she’d like it.

Then I spotted a dog chew shaped like a carrot.  Well… how could I possibly leave that behind?

It practically had Sophie’s name written on it.

Leaving the Longwater retail area turned out to be the biggest challenge of the morning, with traffic queueing to get out of the estate. Rather than sit there watching my phone battery slowly die, I headed back to Mum’s to swap charging cables before setting off again.

Mission one completed.

Mission two…

King’s Lynn.

Mum decided she was feeling well enough to come along for the drive, so we headed to the larger Sainsbury’s there in search of a few things that the Norwich store hadn’t had in stock.

Success!

The trolley definitely came back a little fuller than we’d planned.

By lunchtime we’d both earned a break, so we grabbed some sandwiches, crisps and drinks before tackling the final few jobs.

On the way home there was, of course, one final stop at Waitrose.

At this point I think it would have been rude not to.

One last wander around the aisles, one last opportunity to convince myself I didn’t need anything else… and one last reminder that somehow Waitrose always seems to have exactly the thing you weren’t looking for.

Back at Mum’s we spent the evening doing what turned out to be my favourite part of the day.

Packing...Chatting...Having cuddles with Sophie...Having the neighbours pop by to say byee...And simply enjoying each other’s company.

Sometimes the best travel days aren’t about ticking attractions off a list or driving hundreds of miles.

Sometimes they’re about helping someone you love, running ordinary errands together, sharing a supermarket sandwich and knowing those are the moments you’ll probably remember most.

It was a wonderfully ordinary day.

And it was exactly the way I wanted to spend my last day in Norwich before the next adventure began. ❤️
